Thailand is a beautiful country to travel in. It has much to offer, and for us personally, one thing that we love about Thailand are it’s people: friendly, always smiling, helpful and polite.
Of course you always find exceptions – and particularly when you visit places that are very saturated in terms of tourism (like Pattaya, Phuket, and some places in Bangkok), you will find a lot of other characters. But overall, if you wanted to make a generalization, you could really say that Thai people are very friendly and sincerely helpful.
Thailand also has a lot to offer in terms of food – so much pleasure to be had for foodies here. The countries cuisine has been influenced by many different countries, particularly Chinese, Burmese, Laotian, Malay and Indian cooking. But you find strong Japanese and even European influences here too.
Thailand has always been a cultural melting pot, and it has always willingly assimilated new ideas and foreign concepts into it’s cultural and social life.
Yet, it can also be very different from what people in the Western world are used to. There are many ingredients in food that you probably aren’t familiar with, there are social forms of behavior that might differ from your own.
And there is simply so much to see, do and try – it can be overwhelming.
That’s why it’s sometimes good to have a Thai tour guide – someone who knows the culture, the language, the places, the food – and can also help to bridge the differences between cultures. This will help you to gain access into the real Thailand a lot faster and you will be able to enjoy your vacation in Thailand so much more.
