Wat Phu Tok is in the far northeast of Thailand. It’s an hilltop meditation retreat where several dozen Buddhist monks reside. The retreat was founded in 1968 by the meditation master Phra Ajarn Juen.
Phra Ajarn Juen died a couple of years later on a plane crash when he travelled to Bangkok for the birthday of the queen – some of his remains are enshrined in the temple.
The setting is astonishing and beautiful, and if you have the time it takes to travel to this remote place and settle her so that you can appreciate it’s serenity, it’s well worth making this trip with your personal tour guide.
